Microdroplets

This method is used in cases of strongly reduced numbers of sperm cells, or strongly reduced concentration and with a low MEUSC (Morphologic Evaluation Using Strict Criteria), provided an acceptable number of sperm cells are present – or with a substandard number of sperm cells after PureSperm purification. We can increase the rate of fertility by adding up to 2,000,000 sperm cells per egg in micro droplets with 0.1 ml or in small plastic dishes with 0.8 ml medium (nutrient liquid) in each.

Fertilisation can also be carried out in small plastic trays that afford more space. The egg and sperm are combined in 0.150 ml nutrient liquid.

We have many years of experience in the micro drop technique and our results using this fertilisation method equal those achieved through ICSI.

To give the egg(s) the best possible opportunity to be fertilised, we build a little “igloo” for the egg to provide the best environment for the egg. In other words, we place one or two eggs in a very small droplet (micro droplet) that is covered in medical oil to protect the environment in the droplet. Inside this little droplet of growth medium, we add a number of sperm cells to ensure the concentration – i.e. the “swarm” around the egg – is the optimum size. The micro droplets are placed in a little laboratory dish that is incubated for 48-50 hours or in some situations, for a shorter or longer period depending on the circumstances. We then select the best pre-embryos (fertilised and divided eggs).
